THOMAS Zulu on Monday won the Copperbelt Chess Closed Championship after finishing the tournament unbeaten.
Zulu managed six points at the tournament held in Luanshya.
Zulu beat Joseph Meleka and Alfred Mulenga in round one and two respectively.
Zulu continued with his fine form in round three overcoming Boniface Ngonga before seeing off Mpanga Kasao in the fourth round.
In round five, Zulu outwitted second-placed Panji Goma before edging Henry Ngomi.
Zulu failed to record a seventh win in the final round after battling to a draw with Micheal Kaoma.
Meanwhile, former Copperbelt champion Prince Mulenga won the Luapula Open preparatory tournament with 6.5 points.
Mulenga and Candidate Master Godwin Phiri both finished with 6.5 points but the former had a better tie breaker.
