Zesco move to top

ASSEMBLY 0 ZESCO 1
A 10-MAN Zesco United yesterday moved to the summit of the MTN Super Division log after beating National Assembly in a Week Nine match at Woodlands Stadium in Lusaka.
Jackson Mwanza scored the solitary goal on the nick of half-time when he nodded home a header off John Ching’andu free kick.
Winston Kalengo could have put Zesco ahead in the 15th minute but his shot was cleared off the line by defender Bruno Mwamulima.
Kenyan defender David Odhiambo also missed a chance in the 26th minute when he headed the ball wide.
Zesco suffered a setback on the half hour mark when Misheck Chaila was sent off by referee Odrick Nkole for a crude tackle on Assembly’s Aaron Sakala.
Assembly had chances to equalise in the second half but Peter Mwangani and substitute Gift Lukwesa’s shots were blocked by Odhiambo and Kondwani Mtonga, respectively.
Zesco have 20 points, two ahead of Zanaco, who drew 1-1 with Nkana.
NKANA 1 ZANACO 1  
Zanaco slipped to the second position on the log after allowing Nkana to come from behind to force a draw in Kitwe, HONE SIAME reports.
Boyd Musonda fired Zanaco into the lead on 36 minutes with a long range shot past goalkeeper Rabson Mucheleng’anga.
Nkana coach Beston Chambeshi made three changes in the second half introducing Shaderick Musonda, Djunese Kanda and Joseph Sitali for Simon Bwalya, Josephat Kasusu and Austin Muwowo, respectively.
The changes paid off when Zanaco conceded a penalty in stoppage time after Musonda was brought down by Dominic Yobe.
Musonda converted the spot kick awarded by referee Janny Sikazwe.
Zanaco have 18 points while Nkana have 13.
RANGERS 1 NAPSA 2  
Nchanga Rangers suffered a fourth successive defeat as they went down to Napsa Stars at home in Chingola.
Shadrick Mayembe’s second half brace secured Napsa victory.
Rangers scored the consolation through Emmanuel Banda.
Napsa joined Rangers on seven points.
BLADES 0 POWER 1
Power Dynamos enhanced their aspirations of winning the Super Division title after beating Konkola Blades in Chililabombwe.
Jimmy Ndhlovu netted the solitary goal in the 80th minute to push the Kitwe outfit to 16 points. Blades have 13 points.
NKWAZI 2 EAGLES 1
At Edwin Imboela Stadium in Lusaka, Lottie Nyimbiri scored a brace to hand Green Eagles their third loss, MATHEWS KABAMBA reports.
The win pushed Nkwazi to 16 points at par with third-placed Power.
Nyimbiri opened his account in the 50th minute heading home a Steward Chikandiwa cross but 10 minutes later Eagles replied through Caesar Hakaluba’s header.
Nyimbiri scored the winner in the 80th minute through a well struck header off Mwepu Kasongo cross.
WANDERERS 2 DYNAMOS 0
‘Mighty’ Mufulira Wanderers maintained their unbeaten run at Shinde Stadium when they edged Lusaka Dynamos in Mufulira, MULWANDA LUPIYA reports.
Moses Nyambe opened the scoring in the 11th minute after nodding in a Taonga Bwembya’s cross.
Eric Chibuye sealed victory on 77 minutes with a header off Brian Ambungeni’s cross. Wanderers have 14 points four better than Dynamos.
ARROWS 3 FOREST 1
Resurgent Red Arrows beat Forest Rangers at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.
Arrows scored through Mundia Lubinda, Festus Mbewe and Francis Kombe while Malar Besa netted a consolation for Forest.
Arrows are on 11 points while Forest have seven.
NAKAMBALA 0 BUFFALOES 1
In Mazabuka, Victor Chimbulu’s goal was enough to hand Green Buffaloes victory over winless Nakambala Leopards.
Buffaloes have 11 points while Nakambala remain stuck on three.
