ZESCO United coach Zlatko Krmpotic arrived in Ndola yesterday and declared his ambitions of winning three titles this year.
In an interview at Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport in Ndola, Krmpotic said he is equal to the task of leading Zesco to the ‘promised land’.
“Zesco last season had very good results and I think we have power to repeat these results and maybe become better. I know some players in the team but we have to go into preparation.
“In the Champions League they [Zesco] made it into the semi-finals but now we won’t play in the Champions League and we have three fronts. We have the Confederation Cup, domestic cup [Barclays Cup] and league [Super Division]. Those are the three targets. I hope to win all the three but this is football and I don’t want to speak too much,” the Serbian said.
Krmpotic, who has succeeded George Lwandamina, has signed a two-year contract.
Zesco, who are on bye to the first round in the Confederation Cup, are the Barclays Cup holders.
Krmpotic said he will use his experience and make the Ndola giants a force to reckon with.
“I am happy to be here [Zesco] for the next two years. I have experience and motivation to even better Zesco. Also we have to work hard and prepare for the next season. I will try to give the players the same chance,” he said.
The former TP Mazembe coach also said that Zambia has good players such as Rainford Kalaba, Given Singuluma, Nathan Sinkala and Kabaso Chongo.
The four feature for TP Mazembe and Krmpotic described them as talented.
Krmpotic singled out Super Division sides Nkana and Zanaco as teams that will make the 2017 season competitive.
Zanaco were champions last year while Nkana finished third with Zesco getting the runners-up position.
Krmpotic was received by Zesco officials led by chief executive officer Justin Mumba, chairman Webster Musonda, media and public relations officer Katebe Chengo, executive committee member Charles Kalala and administrative officer Frank Chitambala.
He is expected to be introduced to the players and technical bench today.
