ZDF picks 2 for World Championships

THE Zambia Draughts Federation (ZDF) has picked two players to represent the country at the World Draughts Championships in Russia.
The event will run from October 2 to 11 in Saint Petersburg.
ZDF tournament director Mwaaza Sakala said in Lusaka yesterday that the two players are preparing adequately.
Lukanga Mambwe and Mwaza Sakala will represent the country in Russia.
“Draught is no longer a young sport in the country, it is well known and has really grown as compared to the past years. What the sport is lacking is sponsorship from the corporate world to keep it growing,” Sakala said.
Sakala, who will be participating for the second time at the World Championship, has since promised to improve on his performance.
During the first outing, Sakala was 37th out of 70 players.
Sakala said the International Draught Federation would provide air tickets, lodging and cater for meals.
He said the ZDF has requested Government through the National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) to help sponsor another player and official.
