ZAMBIAN referees should emulate their compatriot Janny Sikazwe. The 39-year-old teacher-cum-referee was one of the African referees who officiated at the 2018 Russia World Cup.
It is a great honour for Zambia to be represented by the referee at the World Cup despite the country not qualifying for this global soccer showpiece.
Early this year, Mr Sikazwe officiated at the Africa Cup of Nations final football match between Cameroon and Egypt in which the former won 2-1.
He also officiated the match between Belgium and Panama on June 18 at the World Cup, and the match between Japan and Poland.
The Zambian referee has demonstrated to the world that he has what it takes to officiate at the highest level.
It is hard work, discipline, focus and self-belief that have made him achieve what he has achieved in his career as a referee.
Any Zambian referee can achieve what Mr Sikazwe has achieved.
To Mr Sikazwe, I say congratulations on your achievement and you have made us proud. The sky is the limit.
