Letter to the Editor

Zambian clubs should persevere

DEAR editor,
After posting 100 percent results in the preliminary round of the Champions League and the Confederation Cup, it appears the hens have come home to roost in the first round.
First round, first leg results in the Champions League and Confederation Cup are reality check. Green Buffaloes lost 4-1 away to Sfaxien in Tunisia while Zesco United faltered 1-0 in Lubumbashi to TP Mazembe.
Nkana beat Tanzanian giants Simba 2-1 in Kitwe as Green Eagles drew 0-0 against Nasir Athletic Hussein Dey of Algeria.
All the four clubs should raise their game because they have what it takes to overcome in the second leg.
The country wants Nkana and Zesco to qualify for the group stage of the Champions League, just as Buffaloes and Eagles should also make the cut for the Confederation Cup play-offs.
For Eagles, they are sitting on history. If they make it to the next stage, they will have the continent looking for Choma on the Zambian map.
Like Zambia National Service commandant Nathan Mulenga told Eagles last week, they should start thinking beyond Choma.
Good luck to all our clubs ahead of the crucial second leg matches this weekend.
