Zambia suspends death penalty

Given Lubinda.

ZAMBIA has voted in the affirmative at the United Nations on the maintenance of a moratorium of the death penalty.
This means that the death penalty is suspended.
Minister of Justice Given Lubinda said this decision not to sign death penalties has earned Zambia the reputation as an abolitionist in implementing the death penalty.
Mr Lubinda was speaking in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, yesterday on his way to Rome, where he is attending a conference on the 10th anniversary of the campaign against the death penalty by an organisation called Saint Egidio.
