A FIELD of 144 golfers takes to the course at Lusaka Golf Club to fight for the R1.5 million prize money as the 2016 Zambia Sugar Open Championship tees off today.
With the greens and fairways in perfect condition, there is hope for Zambian golfers led by Madaliso Muthiya to perform better this year but focus will be on defending champion Vaughn Groenewald.
Groenewald won the 2015 edition when he sank an astonishing 20 under par after four rounds to emerge victorious at the event that is dominated by South Africans.
“It brings back good memories coming back here. I played great here last year and I am playing well at the moment. So I am looking forward to it,” Groenewald said.
