Zambia Sugar increases rail transport tonnage

ZAMBIA Sugar has increased its tonnage following the newly-introduced statutory instrument (SI) to compel 30 percent of bulky and heavy cargo to be moved by rail, thereby reducing transportation costs.

In welcoming the move, company communications manager Sally Namutowe said rail transportation has been the company’s preferred mode of transport for a long time in moving products into the market.

In response to a press query, Ms Namutowe said the use of railway transport will enable the sugar business to move large volumes of products in an efficient and timely manner.
