Zambia Railways intensifies advice

THE Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL) will intensify sensitisation among people in Mazabuka’s Kaleya settlement, where it records frequent train derailments.

In a statement released in Kabwe yesterday, ZRL managing director Christopher Musonda attributed Wednesday’s accident in Mazabuka, in which one passenger died and four others were injured, to suspected sabotage.
“Our investigations reveal that the cause of the derailment is track-related, but acts of sabotage have not been ruled out,” Mr Musonda said.
He commended the crew that was on duty for its quick action without which hundreds of lives would have been lost in the accident.
“We can also confirm that no cargo or parcels were lost in the accident. However, an insurance team is on site just in case of any claims,” Mr Musonda said.
