Zambia Railways back on track with 3 engines

THREE out of 10 Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL) locomotives, each with a 2,150 horse power, with capacity to carry 1,200 tonnes of cargo, have been successfully re-manufactured and are ready to resume operations.
Government has engaged SMH Rail, a Malaysian railway engineering firm, to re-manufacture 10 ZRL locomotives each at a cost of US$2.5 million.
Minister of Transport and Communications Brian Mushimba yesterday commissioned three locomotives, stating that when all the 10 are re-manufactured, ZRL will increase its hauling capacity by an extra one million tonnes per year.
