Zambia gets boxing High Performance Centre

THE International Amateur Boxing Association (IABA) and International Olympic Committee (IOC) have picked Zambia to host a boxing High Performance Centre (HPC).
The centre will be situated at Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) in Lusaka.
IABA official Fabricio Leclercq is in the country to inspect boxing facilities at OYDC ahead of the 2016 Olympic Games qualifiers.
Zambia Boxing Federation (ZBF) president Thomas Chileshe said in Lusaka yesterday that Leclercq’s visit is aimed at inspecting boxing facilities.
“The boxing hall will become the High Performance Centre for all boxers in the Zone [Zone Four].  Boxers and coaches from outside the country will be coming here to use the facility once it is worked on,” Chileshe said.
He said IABA and IOC chose Zambia because it is in a central location.
Chileshe said the federation will take advantage of the facility to train more boxers for future international assignments.
And OYDC director Clement Chileshe expressed happiness at the gesture.
He said Zambian boxers, including foreigners, will have an opportunity to improve their skill.
