Zambia face Nigeria in Africa Cup opener

THE Confederation of African Rugby (CAR) Group 1 C tournament gets underway today at Lusaka Showgrounds with Zambia launching the campaign with a tricky tie against Nigeria.
Zimbabwe are the other team competing in the tournament which will be played on a round robin basis.
The group winners will be promoted to Group 1B.
Both Zambia and Nigeria failed to qualify to Group 1B status last year during a tournament in Botswana.
Zambia coach Mwamba Chishimba is confident his charges will overcome both Zimbabwe and Nigeria to win promotion.
“We must win the opening game against Nigeria because that will set us on the path for qualification. It will be a tough game but we are ready,” Chishimba said.
He is heaping hopes on hooker Ephraim Musukwa and veteran lock Fine Chikamba who boasts of massive experience having been with the national team for over nine years.
Other players that could give Nigeria a torrid time are prop Fernand Kashimoto and flanker Benaya Mukwamba.
Scrum half Chishimba Kafula is another player who could secure Zambia victory.
Zambia beat Nigeria 28-10 last year in Gaborone.
On the other hand, the Stallions have underlined their seriousness by including tight head Ume Leslie Lkenna, who plies his trade in England.
They also have hooker Ayewe Emmanuel and loose head Oduola Sodiq Kofoworola, tight head Wilson Obi Izuchukwu and prop Bassey Sunday to count on for victory.
Nigeria Rugby Football Federation president Fom Edward Pam is confident his players will triumph.
Nigeria will play Zimbabwe on Wednesday while the last game will involve Zambia and Zimbabwe on June 27.
