ZAMBIA will face Zimbabwe at next month’s Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Women’s Championship.
Zambia and Zimbabwe have been drawn in Pool A alongside Malawi and Madagascar.
According to the draws conducted in South Africa yesterday, Zambia will kick-start the campaign with a clash against Malawi at Barbourfields Stadium on September 13 and two days later engage hosts Zimbabwe at the same venue.
Zimbabwe’s Mighty Warriors are defending champions.
The She-polopolo will conclude the preliminary round stage with a clash against Madagascar on September 17.
Guests Kenya have been placed in Pool B with Mauritius, Mozambique and Swaziland.
Three-time champions South Africa will battle Botswana, Lesotho and Namibia in Pool C whose games have been billed for Luveve Stadium.
South Africa triumphed in 2002, 2006 and 2008.
The three top teams and the best-placed runners-up will advance to the semi-finals billed for September 21 at Barbourfields Stadium.
COSAFA chief operating officer Sue Destombes is confident the expanded tournament will be a success.
COSAFA has expanded the tournament from eight to 12 teams.
