ACTING President Inonge Wina has described late Hector Banda as an icon in the business sector whose vision must be carried on.
Speaking yesterday during the requiem mass for Mr Banda, 66, held at Deeper Life Church in Kamwala, Mrs Wina said Mr Banda built an empire from the scratch.
“Whatever achievements he made did not come about as an accident. It is because he had a special gift which he widely used,” she said.
She said Mr Banda and his wife, Sylvia, were inseparable as they worked in the same office for over 16 years and shared one vehicle.
“Mr Banda was a rare man who allowed his wife to lead while he was in the background. This is a rare attribute which we seldom see in our society,” she said.
Mrs Wina hoped that the children have learnt something from their parents.
She said the country will remember Mr Banda as a person who worked hard to promote traditional foods and contributed to promotion of food and nutrition.
