WFP, Oxfam America partner to support farmers

GREEN FARMERS are being encouraged to manage weeds in fields to encourage water retention and better soil quality.

CYNTHIA MWALE, Lusaka
THE World Food Programme (WFP) and Oxfam America have partnered to support smallholder farmers in Zambia in accessing appropriate inputs.
The partnership is aimed at providing smallholder farmers (SHF) with financial resources to increase their agricultural production.
WFP country director for Africa Office Angelline Rudakubana said the organisation has been implementing many integrated risk management programmes with financial service focus using traditional micro-financing through savings groups.
“This has proven to be an effective alternative source of finances for SHFs to access the needed farm inputs such as seed and fertiliser,” he said.
