Vote wisely, Solwezi electorate urged

From BUTTYSON KANDIMBA in Solwezi
PATRIOTIC Front (PF) candidate in the Solwezi Central parliamentary by-election  has implored the electorate to vote wisely by electing a person who will effectively represent their interests.
Mr Malwa said in an interview here on Wednesday that Solwezi is underdeveloped due to poor leadership by previous members of Parliament (MPs).
“People should give me a chance by voting for me. They will see change as I am determined to develop this area.
“PF is the only party that can deliver sustainable development in this area. Opposition parties have tried in the past but failed to deliver,” Mr Malwa said.
Mr Malwa said campaigns in the by-election have been peaceful and has since urged his supporters to concentrate on issue-based campaigns.
“I further urge my supporters to be united and refrain from violence even when provoked. We do not want our election to be challenged in court on the basis of violence,” he said.
Mr Malwa urged the people of Solwezi and the rest of the country to work with the ruling party to foster national development.
United Party for National Development (UPND) North-Western provincial youth secretary Robison Namainga said the party’s candidate, Dawson Kafwaya, will scoop the seat as he is credible.
Mr Namainga said the opposition party is optimistic of carrying the day on September 11, as it has based its campaigns on development.
He expressed gratitude to all political parties participating in the by-election for the peaceful manner they are conducting campaigns.
The by-election was necessitated by the Supreme Court nullification of the election of MMD’s Lucky Mulusa for alleged electoral malpractice.
Five candidates are contesting the seat. Mr Mulusa is re-contesting the seat on the MMD ticket, PF have fielded Newton Malwa, UPND Dawson Kafwaya, FDD Nathan Mulonga and UNIP Mary Katiki.
