Vodafone praises State for new licensing framework

KALONDE NYATI, Lusaka
VODAFONE Zambia says Government’s resolve to introduce a new licensing framework for the telecommunication industry will promote competitiveness.
This follows Cabinet’s approval of a new licensing framework for the telecommunications industry, which is expected to reform the sector and spur investment.
Vodafone Zambia chief executive officer Lars Stork said the landmark decision coincides with consumers’ desire for variety and competitiveness in the industry.
“We applaud Cabinet, particularly the Ministry of Transport and Communication … for this step. As Vodafone Zambia, we are excited about what this means for Zambian consumers who will soon have a multiplicity of communication options best suited to their needs. We are convinced that this decision will open doors for innovation [and] excellence in service delivery,” he said.
This is contained in a statement issued yesterday by Vodafone Zambia head of corporate communication Banji Lufungulo.
Mr Stork said the pronouncement will provide incentives to invest, thus paving  the way for superior products and services that contribute toward bridging the digital divide.
“We anticipate increased investment in the sector, translating into better quality of service for the consumer, increased employment opportunities and revenue vital for development projects. This decision will forever be etched in Zambia’s development story and its ripple effect will be felt for generations to come,” he said.
