Victor Mukonka wins best health presentation

FORMER Ministry of Health director of public health and research Victor Mukonka has won the Best Overall Oral Presentation at the recently-held 3rd Irish Congress of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Perinatal Medicine (ICOGPM) in Ireland.
Dr Mukonka, who is now a senior research fellow at National University of Ireland, won an abstract titled “Increasing institution deliveries by skilled birth attendants through addressing hidden costs in rural Zambia”.
The abstract won for its research work on reducing maternal and mortality rate in rural parts of Zambia.
In a letter to Dr Mukonka, Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, Faculty coordinator Institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecologists Neil Coen said the abstract was chosen to be best of the Crop Session in programming where it was then selected as the Best Overall Oral Presentation.
The Irish Congress of Obstetrics and Gynaecologists and Perinatal Medicine (ICOGPM) is held annually and this year’s was held from May14 to 15 in Dublin, Ireland.
Dr Mukonka’s  abstract  was the best out of over 130 entries, beating the locals, and the panel of judges believes his achievement is well deserved.
In an interview, Dr Mukonka said he is proud to carry the Zambian flag high in a foreign land
“My award is testimony of the best brains that Zambia has which is seen across the world. This brings a lot of pride for the country and puts Zambia high on the map,” Dr Mukonka said.
