UTH worker, ‘diplomat’ nabbed over drug trafficking

THE Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested a medical records officer from the University Teaching Hospital and a driver from an embassy in Lusaka for allegedly trafficking and importing ephedrine, a crystalline drug which causes constriction of blood vessels.
DEC deputy public relations officer Kamufisa Manchishi named the suspects, both aged 41, as Millcent Beebe, a medical records officer of DK township in Lusaka, and Paul Mwenda, a driver of Number D10, Chitemwiko Road in Kabulonga.
Mr Manchishi said in a statement issued yesterday that Beebe, who was intercepted at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport, allegedly concealed 34 tins of crystalline weighing 19.3kg.
