IT IS quite interesting to note that 2019 MTN Super Division is likely to start in January in compliance with the Confederation of African Football directive.
According to FAZ Vice-President Rix Mweemba, the directive will work to the advantage of the local league that kicked off from March to November because teams went on a long break of four months and by the time they participated in CAF competitions; their performance was usually below par.
The change in the football calendar is certainly laudable but may call for the local clubs to improve their stadiums as well. Most of the football stadiums in the country do not provide adequate shelter to soccer fans against the strong winds, sun and rains during football matches except for VIP stands where people who buy the most expensive tickets are accommodated.
With the local football league beginning in the rainy season, FAZ should make it mandatory for all the football clubs to modernise their stadiums in conformity with international standards like Levy Mwanawasa and National Heroes stadiums.
