Turkey agencies target Zambia’s tourism

CATHERINE MUMBA, Lusaka
THE Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TURSAB) has pledged to help Zambia increase tourist arrivals by marketing the country as a destination of choice in Africa.
Zambia’s deputy head of mission to Turkey Bwalya Nondo said in a statement yesterday that TURSAB will soon undertake a familiarisation tour of Zambia to appreciate the country’s tourism landscape and market it to the Turkish people.
Mr Nondo said the pronouncement was made by TURSAB president Basaran Ulusoy when Zambia’s ambassador to Turkey Miriam Mulenga held a meeting with the organisation at its head office in Istanbul on Monday.
Ms Mulenga met Mr Ulusoy to explore how Zambia can be assisted to raise the bar of tourist arrivals.
“Motivated by Zambia being an oasis of peace, Mr Ulusoy assured ambassador Mulenga of his association’s willingness to market Zambia as a prime African tourism destination.
“TURSAB is also willing to offer capacity-building in the tourism management,” Mr Nondo said.
He said Mr Ulusoy expressed confidence that with increased promotion, Zambia would become a popular destination among Turkish tourists.
And Ms Mulenga, who distributed a number of materials depicting tourism attractions to be marketed by TURSAB, noted that it was the desire of Zambia to increase tourist arrivals and hoped that this will soon be reality with intensified promotional activities by TURSAB.
