Tokyo outing disappoints Mung’andu

JUDOKA Stephen Mung’andu says his early elimination from the Tokyo Olympics is painful as he was looking forward to getting in the medal brackets.
In an interview yesterday, Mung’andu, who was eliminated in the first round of the 66kg category, says he feels very disappointed with his performance as he was prepared to win Zambia a medal on his debut at the global event.
Mung’andu said he put up a good fight against Slovenian Adrian Gomboc, though he was disadvantaged on technical issues.
The Zambian, who lost on points, was eliminated from the competition after he was penalised three times for non-combative.
Though he was penalised, Mung’andu and another judoka from Niger are the only fighters who did not lose via knock-out in the first round.
