THE Mongu – Kalabo Road Bridge is not only an engineering feat; it is also a reference point for Government’s commitment to infrastructure development in Western Province.
Besides its aesthetic value, the bridge has proved to be of immense economic value.
Testimonies of the significance of the highway built across the Barotse plains linking the East to the then chronically under- developed West Bank abound.
Mary Kawewe, a fish trader, is among those who attest to the benefits of the magnificent infrastructure.
Ms Kawewe, who sells her fish in Solwezi, says travel between Mongu and Kalabo was a nightmare prior to the construction of the bridge.
“It took days to get between the two destinations, a journey that now takes less than an hour.
“Travel is now easy from here to Kalabo,” she says.
