TAZARA rescue plan on

NANCY MWAPE, Livingstone
ZAMBIA, Tanzania and China will soon meet to explore ways of resolving the financial crisis that has beset Tanzania Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA), Minister of Transport, Works, Supply and Communications Yamfwa Mukanga has said.
Mr Mukanga said in an interview that the three governments will meet to explore ways of recapitalising TAZARA to revamp its operations.
“We have discussed with the Ministry of Finance to have the workers paid the salary backlog. The problem is that TAZARA has not been making any profit and Government has always come to the aid of workers’ salaries,” he said.
Mr Mukanga said Government would like to see TAZARA generating revenue to pay   workers’ salaries instead of depending on shareholders.
