‘Take lead in promoting domestic tourism’

ZAMBIANS should take the lead in promoting domestic tourism for the sector to overcome the coronavirus episode, Zambia Tourism Agency (ZTA) communications and corporate affairs manager Betty Chabala has said.
Last year, Zambia recorded 400,000 international tourists due to the outbreak of COVID-19 while 1.2 million visited the country in 2019.
Mrs Chabala said in an interview on Saturday that domestic tourism is key in keeping the sector afloat with COVID-19 taking centre stage globally.
She said ZTA has engaged tour operators on the need to reduce rates so that Zambians could come on board and contribute to the growth of the tourism industry.
