Take advantage of AfDB meetings, says Kalyalya

BANK of Zambia (BoZ) governor Denny Kalyalya has challenged the business community to take advantage of next week’s African Development Bank (AfDB) annual meetings to strike business deals with foreign delegates (investors) that will be in attendance.
The high-level AfDB annual meetings are scheduled to take place from May 23- 27, 2016 at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka, under the theme ‘Energy and Climate Change.’
In an interview, Dr Kalyalya said the AfDB annual meetings will present enormous opportunities including that of establishing business joint ventures.
“A gathering of over 4,000 people should not be taken as a business as usual meeting. We expect deals to be struck and the private sector should utilise this opportunity since it [hosting of meetings] usually happens once in a long time,”
“This is an opportunity that we cannot afford to miss because it is on our door steps, and it is not a meeting for bankers only but, all captains of the industry, including that of commerce, tourism and hospitality, and the economy in general,” he said.
Dr Kalyalya said the central bank has completed the tasks that were assigned to it by the local organising committee.
“As BoZ, we have done almost all the tasks that we were assigned to do such as engaging banks to provide full time banking services at the venue of the meetings, ensuring that foreign exchange bureaux and point-of-sales terminals are established at the venue and finding sponsors for the Presidential banquet, welcoming cocktail and cultural night dinner,” he said.
Zambia last hosted the AfDB annual meetings in 1973.
