Street children get empowerment

SITEMBILE SIWAWA, Lusaka
GOVERNMENT says it will scale up the training of street children at Zambia National Service camps to empower them with skills.
And Children International Zambia (CIZ) has acquired 385 hectares of land in Chibolya area valued at over K1 million for the youth multi-purpose conference centre.
Minister of Youth and Sports Vincent Mwale said the scaling up of programmes will also mean there will be an increase in self-reliance among the street children and vulnerable youths.
In a speech read on his behalf by Ministry of Youth and Sports director Collins Mulonda, Mr Mwale said the ZNS camp in Chisamba would soon recruit for the 2016 intake.
“We are also empowering youths with three hectares of land in Mporokoso district to improve the participation levels of youths in agriculture,” he said.
And CIZ board representative Dr Yotam Phiri said the multi-purpose conference centre will cater for over 7,000 youths aged between 12 and 19.
The facility will raise the curtain on the future of the youths in Chibolya compound and not only will it benefit them but also youths from other communities,” Dr Phiri said.
