State steps up women empowerment

KELVIN CHONGO, Lusaka
GOVERNMENT will continue implementing programmes and policies aimed at empowering women, acting Secretary to the Cabinet Peter Kasanda has said.
Mr Kasanda said Government will enhance women’s access to cost-effective goods and services through implementation of innovative and good programmes.
He said this at the commemoration of the Africa Public Service Day and launch of commemorative activities under the theme ‘Role of public service in women empowerment, innovation and accessible service delivery’.
Mr Kasanda said Government will ensure that the public has access to information on various women’s empowerment programmes that are available in the public service.
He said Government has planned a number of road shows where it will display its programmes and also interact with community members.
“At the road shows, members of the public, especially women, will have an opportunity to know policies aimed at empowering them and how they can access support from Government,” Mr Kasanda said.
Mr Kasanda said this will also be an opportunity for public service workers to ensure that at least 30 percent of land is allocated to women.
“In addition to road shows, members of the public will be availed with information on various innovations that have taken place in the public service aimed at improving the delivery of public service,” he said.
