State releases K4m for relief food

GOVERNMENT has released K4 million for relief food to valley areas of Eastern Province hit by hunger.
Eastern Province Minister Makebi Zulu said the funds are intended to cushion the hunger situation in Mambwe, Lumezi, Nyimba and some parts of Petauke districts.
Speaking in an interview on Saturday, he said that Government has engaged ADRA and COMACO in the distribution exercise, which is scheduled to start immediately.
“I can confirm funds have been released towards the distribution of relief food to the valley areas in the province,”Mr Zulu said.
He, however, said that the province may require K20 million to procure and distribute adequate stock of relief food for the whole province.
