LIGHTWEIGHT Nkumbu Silungwe and welterweight Mbachi Kaonga have qualified for the World Boxing Championship billed for
Zambia Boxing Federation (ZBF) president Kennedy Mubita said in an interview yesterday that his executive will ensure that the two boxers will be adequately prepared for the challenge ahead.
The tournament is set for August 25 to September 3.
The two boxers won bronze medals at the Africa Championship in Congo-Brazzaville.
Nkumbu lost to Kakande Muzamiru of Uganda in a semi-final bout on split point decision and so was Mbachi to UlrichYomb of Cameroon.
“They [boxers] have qualified for the global tournament, this is great for Zambia. It was not easy to win the two slots at the continental tournament due to bias officiating by the officials.
“I advise the boys to continue training hard in order to maintain fitness levels so that they compete effectively in Germany,” Mubita said.
And ZBF technical committee chairman Elias Kataya said there is need to organise for training equipment for the two boxers.
“We have a challenge with training equipment for the boxers. This was the case when we were preparing for the continental tournament. We need proper equipment for the pugilists,” Kataya said.
