Sherwood ‘litters’ Ndola with bins

THE Ndola City Council (NCC) has implored the private sector to help the local authority with litter bins to enable it effectively implement the solid waste management programme.
And Sherwood Greene has given the local authority 100 litter bins worth K25,000 as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility.
Ndola mayor Samuel Munthali said the council does not meet expectations of the public due to lack of resources to improve service delivery.
Mr Munthali said this when Sherwood Greene handed over the donated litter bins to the local authority.
“Although we are facing challenges of lack of resources, we have made a number of strides in utility equipment acquisition such as front-end loaders, tipper trucks and graders,” he said.
Mr Munthali also appealed to residents to maintain high standards of cleanliness in public places such as markets.
Sherwood Greene managing director Chileshe Musonda said the firm has a responsibility of giving back to communities in which it operates.
Mr Chileshe said the firm has since 2010 donated K150,000 to various organisations in Lusaka, Kitwe and Ndola.
