Saving culture pays off for prudent entrepreneur

KINGSLEY KASWENDE, Lusaka
HE could well be the longest-serving customer in a single bank in Zambia.
Balvan Popat, a Zambian national of Indian descent, has been honoured by Zanaco for being the longest-serving customer, as the bank prepares to celebrate its 50 years of existence this year. He has been saving with the bank for 49 years. He opened his account in 1970 when Zanaco was just about a year old, and he has had unbroken loyalty to the bank ever since.
“From the first day I became a customer, I’ve never seen the need to move to another bank over the last 49 years,” he says.
Now retired and living a quiet life with his wife in Lusaka, Mr Popat reminisces about the unwavering loyalty to Zanaco over the past five decades. He is now a ‘private banking’ customer under the bank’s recently-established tailored customer value proposition – private banking. http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
