Sata is Lusaka minister

STEVEN MVULA, Lusaka
PRESIDENT Lungu has transferred State House Deputy Minister Mulenga Sata to Lusaka Province with a clear instruction to deal with the cholera outbreak and systematically relocate vendors to clean trading areas.
President Lungu’s special assistant for press and public relations, Amos Chanda, announced this yesterday.
And Mr Sata says he is looking forward to the challenge.
Mr Chanda said President Lungu wants Mr Sata to use his experience as councillor and mayor to deal with the challenges that have beset Lusaka.
“Following the departure of Mr Obvious Mwaliteta, President Lungu has transferred Mr Sata to Lusaka Province. He wants him to put in place a robust programme to contain the cholera outbreak and up the collection of garbage in the city using his experience as a councillor,” Mr Chanda said.
He also said the President wants Mr Sata to relocate marketeers in an orderly manner.
And Mr Sata said he is aware of the cholera crisis and will work closely with the local authority to address issues like garbage collection and relocation of vendors and marketeers.
“My new portfolio will enable me to interact more with the people. The past one year that I have worked at State House, I have been kind of detached from people and so this will give me chance to reconnect,” he said.
