‘Repositioning strategies, policies good for crop production’

KELLY NJOMBO, Kigali, Rwanda
GOVERNMENT says transforming the agriculture sector will require repositioning strategies and deliver sound policies that will enhance diversification in crop production.
Minister of Agriculture Michael Katambo said in the wake of climate change, there is need for governments to enact policies that will safeguard farmers’ interests in boosting crop production by adopting various improved farming techniques.
Mr Katambo said farmers need access to affordable irrigation schemes and equipment to enable them to stop depending on rain-fed agriculture.
Speaking at the ongoing eighth African Green Revolution Forum (AGRF) 2018 here, Mr Katambo said increasing farmers’ yields and income generation should be at the centre of every country yearning for economic prosperity.
