Registrar of Societies urges churches to avoid deregistration

THE Ministry of Home Affairs has appealed to clergy persons to register their churches with the Registrar of Societies before March 31, 2015 to avoid deregistration.
Ministry of Home Affairs spokesperson Moses Suwali said this when he featured on Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation’s (ZNBC) Morning Live programme.
“The response from churches is bad and not as expected. Most of them do not want to be monitored as mandated by law. Zambia has a lot of churches of which only about 1,000 have been registered countrywide,” Mr Suwali said.
He said the ministry will continue carrying out random inspections to ensure compliance in their operations.
Mr Suwali urged churches and societies to register with the Registrar of Societies to avoid inconveniences.
Mr Suwali said some churches that were banned in Lusaka Chibolya township early this year have engaged the ministry in dialogue and met stipulated requirements.
