IT IS deeply saddening to read about a tragic incident of an 11-year-old pupil in Chama who set herself ablaze in a suicide attempt for being mistreated by school mates.
The grade 4 pupil at Phyanakunda Primary School doused diesel on her body before setting herself alight.
This is a very serious matter which school authorities should look into.
School authorities should also ensure that the learning environment is safe and comfortable by ridding retrogressive tendencies such as bullying. Schools should treat this as a very serious offence because of the effects it has.
The parents of the girls should also take them for prayers and counselling. It is scary that an 11-year-old can even contemplate suicide.
