PS grilled over Justice monies

PUBLIC Accounts Committee chairperson Howard Kunda yesterday warned Ministry of Justice permanent secretary in charge of administration Thandiwe Oteng that she risks being surcharged if officials from her ministry continue being cited in the Auditor-General’s Report for financial irregularities.

And committee member Mwansa Mbulakulima said the Ministry of Justice silently mismanages public resources, consuming 15 percent of the national budget.
The Ministry of Justice is cited in the Auditor- General’s Report for a number of queries, among them failure to insure a newly-built office building that cost Government K11 million, irregular use of imprest to procure goods and services amounting to K105,713, delays in settling compensations and awards amounting to K158 million, and judgment entered in default costing Government K949,766.
