Presidents debate fails to take off

ALVIN CHIINGA, Lusaka
THE presidential debate that was scheduled for last night failed to take off due to unknown reasons.
Earlier, PF secretary-general Davies Chama had said the party’s presidential candidate Edgar Lungu could not participate in last night’s presidential debate because of his prior campaign engagements.
Mr Chama said in a statement yesterday that Mr Lungu is currently touring rural parts of Zambia such as Kaputa, Nsama and Mpulungu as he steps up his cross-country campaign.
“This campaign will mean that Mr Lungu will not be available for the debate organised by the Economics Association of Zambia today [last night],” he said.
Mr Chama said that Mr Lungu will, however, participate in future debates if informed on time given his busy campaign schedule that commenced just under 30 days ago.
He also said that Mr Lungu yesterday pulled huge crowds in Mpulungu among the other stops he made as the people continued to show their overwhelming support for him ahead of the election slated for January 20.
Mr Chama said those that harbour bitterness against Mr Lungu shall fail as evidenced in months preceding his filing of nomination papers as the PF candidate for the election.
