Power Africa Initiative to up supply

THE United States government says the Southern Africa Energy Programme (SAEP) is working towards accelerating investment in the energy sector to increase electricity supply and access throughout the region in a project dubbed Power Africa Initiative.

SAEP is a five-year USAID-funded programme that is designed to increase the supply of electricity and access in southern Africa.

USAID southern Africa mission director John Groarke said the Power Africa initiative is a USAID flagship energy programme in the region.
“USAID will continue to be a development partner in southern Africa’s energy sector by committing support,” Mr Groarke said during the launch of the SAEP at the Regional Electricity Regulators Association (RERA) annual conference and general meeting last week.
