PERCY Kangwa Chato last month formally handed over his reign of power to his successor Chisela Chileshe following his retirement as Commissioner-General (CG) of the Zambia Correctional Service (ZCS) in early November last year.
This was at an event dubbed the ‘porting-in and porting-out’ parade at Kabwe’s Bothwell Imakando Correctional Service Staff College in Kabwe.
With a record nine years at the helm of the institution, Mr Chato was the second longest-serving commissioner, even prior to being elevated as the country’s first CG by President Edgar Lungu in 2016.
Jonathan Mwanza, who was Commissioner of the Zambia Prisons Service (ZPS) from 1971 to 1985, was the longest serving.
