Pool tourney to honour Mulenga set for September 12

ROBINSON KUNDA, Lusaka
FRIENDS of late Nigel Mulenga are organising a memorial pool tournament to remember the former Zambia Daily Mail sports editor.
The Nigel Mulenga Memorial Pool tournament organising committee chairperson Kebby Musonda said yesterday the event will be held at Corner’s Den Pool Club in Ndola on September 12.
Musonda said over 50 players are expected to sign up for the one-day tournament.
“Nigel was our friend, who contributed a lot to the development of pool. The purpose of this tournament is to remember him as our brother, who was also a pool player.
“This being just a memorial tournament, we are not staking a lot of money in terms of prizes,” he said.
The participation fee has been pegged at K25 per person and entries are open to everyone who can play pool.
The winner of the tournament will receive K750 while the runner-up will walk away with K500 with the third finisher pocketing K350.
Musonda appealed to Mulenga’s friends to turn up in numbers.
“Mulenga contributed a lot to the development of pool as a sport and some of us who knew him want to appreciate him. We hope to make this tournament an annual event,” he said.
