EIGHT poets will today go head to head in a contest of words for the title of 2014 Slam Champion at Lusaka’s Mulungushi International Conference Centre.
The show, called the Bittersweet Poetry Slam 2014, is hosted by Bittersweet Poetry Zambia and is in its second year running after its successful launch last year.
In this contest, poets take to the stage to show off their poetic prowess and prove that they deserve to be named the Slam Champ.
The audience at the show will be the automatic judges but the contest’s hosts have also organised three stand-by judges in case of a tie for an eventual winner to be decided.
Musical entertainment by various artistes on the night has been lined up for the audience and for an addition of flavour to the show.
Last year’s winner, Jesse Nsofu, walked away with a K1,500 cash prize and returns to the stage this year to defend or surrender his title.
The winner this year walks away with K2,000 cash and the hosts Bittersweet Poetry Zambia hope that those in attendance will assume a greater appreciation for poetry.
Bittersweet Poetry Zambia co-founder Kapembwa Wanjelani said in an interview that the show is a platform providing alternative clean entertainment through poetic expression.
