PF intact – Lungu

CHOMBA MUSIKA, Lusaka
PRESIDENT Lungu says the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) is united and will not be distracted by people venting their anger and harbouring ambitions of taking over from him in 2021.
The President has also said democracy demands that governments or political parties go for elections after a specified interval.
He said the PF remains united and focused to implement its development agenda.
Mr Lungu told journalists yesterday in Lusaka after donating gifts to children at three health institutions that he has heard sentiments from the media on the perceived wrangles in the PF but insisted that the ruling party remained united.
“I have heard sentiments in the media that there is friction [in the PF], but we are still united and focused to provide leadership in order to grow the economy and improve people’s lives,” he said.
On some PF members calling for party elections, the President said the PF will go for the general conference when time comes and all leaders will recontest their positions.
The President said unlike other political parties that have refused to hold party elections, the PF will go for a general conference to vote for leaders who will give it a new lease of life.
“But for now, our focus is to work and deliver to the people,” he said.
The President said democracy demands that governments or political parties go for elections after a specified period of time.
President Lungu said Zambia has a good leadership in place focused on unifying and developing the nation.
“We shall continue to promote love and unity, and differences will be there but we will not allow them [differences] to bring us down,” he said.
