THE city fathers of Kabwe town must be commended for naming most public institutions after some gallant men and women who served this country in different capacities.
However, most people do not know who these people are and what they did. l think all heads of institutions named after people must build a statue or put up a plaque with written a brief history.
Most pupils and even teachers from schools like Stephen Luwisha, Angelina Tembo, Kasanda Malombe, Ben Kafupi, David Lamushi do not even know who their schools are named after.
Nkrumah University has a beautiful statue on its entrance with a brief history written about Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president.
Preserving our heritage by naming public places after people is important but we need to put the names in perspective so that generations to come know where they are coming from.
