One more song for KK

I N HONOUR of first President Kenneth Kaunda, a musician in his own right himself, gospel singer Nathan Nyirenda last Monday spent time at the State Lodge house of mourning to offer solemn music to grievers. “He [Dr Kaunda] was a great lover of my music,”Nathan explained to the Weekend Mail . “He enjoyed my Mwemakufi song, so I am here as a way of honouring him.”Nathan said he will remember Dr Kaunda, who died aged 97, as a great music composer who loved promoting the arts. “KK inspired a lot of people,” he said. “He was also a great music composer, I especially enjoyed his Bambi Balelila Ama suit song. He was such a great inspiration.” The singer and songwriter said the founding President,who used to impressively strum a guitar and sing, will also be remembered by artists for being the first head of State to appoint a visually impaired artiste to a government position.“He appointed a visually impaired musician, Lazarus Tembo, as a Junior Minister of Culture, a position which was equivalent to deputy minister,” Nathan.“KK was a great man and we will miss him for many reasons.”As mourners trooped to the house to sign the 124-page book of condolences, Nathan beautifully serenaded his Chikondo song while playing the keyboard which condensed the sombre atmosphere.
