Nyimba to get 2 bridges at K700,000

DARLINGTON MWENDABAI, Nyimba
GOVERNMENT is constructing two bridges at a cost of over K700,000 in Nyimba, member of Parliament Forrie Tembo has said.
Mr Tembo, who is also Deputy Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services, expressed concern that over 10,000 residents who include pupils were facing challenges to attend classes at Hofmeyr Boarding School and healthcare services at a local clinic after the bridges collapsed.
He said the residents will now benefit from the construction of the two bridges.
Mr Tembo, who was touring radio stations in Eastern Province, also inspected projects on Monday.
“Kazavu bridge has since been completed at a cost of K298,000 and Muzunguzi is still under construction at a cost of over K406,000,” Mr Tembo said.
The National Road Fund Agency (NRFA) is funding the construction of the two Bridges through the Ministry of Local Government and Housing.
“The construction of the bridges started in November last year and the Kazavu bridge which is 15 metres long was completed last month while the Muzunguzi which is 20 metres long is near completion,” he said.
He is also concerned that T4 Hofmeryr Road becomes impassable in the rainy season.
Mr Tembo, however, assured residents that Government is determined to improve infrastructure in rural areas to enable communities have access to quality healthcare and education.
Nyimba District Council director of works Benson Sihulumi said the Muzunguzi bridge will be completed soon.
