‘Nurse moonlighting okay’

VIOLET MENGO, Lusaka
MEDICAL Association of Zambia (MAZ) president Aaron Mujajati says there is nothing wrong with nurses or medical doctors having two jobs provided one is not stealing man-hours from the government.
“ What we discourage is using government time to do other jobs,” Dr Mujajati said.
He explained that doctors and nurses have unique schedules that allow them to have almost a week of off-days that they can use as they wish.
Dr Mujajati was reacting to a statement by Ndola acting district commissioner Taphen Muloongo who raised alarm over some medical personnel, mainly nurses, who are employed by two institutions and are drawing two salaries.
At a press briefing in Ndola last week, Mr Muloongo warned the ‘culprits’ of necessary disciplinary measures.
