MOPANI Copper Mines board chairman Moses Chilangwa is disappointed at Nkana Football Club’s third-place finish in the 2016 Super Division campaign.
And striker Walter Bwalya on Friday night bagged three awards during the Nkana awards gala in Kitwe.
Bwalya bagged the player-of-the-year, top scorer and fans-player-of-the-year awards and walked away with K12,000.
Speaking during the gala, Chilangwa said Mopani are disappointed with Nkana’s performance during the just ended 2016 campaign.
Nkana finished third with 70 points, 11 behind champions Zanaco.
Nkana lost 0-4 to Zanaco in the Barclays Cup semi-final to end the season without silverware.
“At the beginning of the season, we were all optimistic that Nkana [would] win the league. But unfortunately this was not the case and we also failed to qualify for continental football.
“This has greatly disappointed management and other stakeholders considering the calibre of players and the technical bench we have as Nkana,” Chilangwa said.
However, club president Everisto Kabila pledged that his executive would strive to at least win two league titles during their tenure.
Meanwhile, Bwalya was the star of the night winning three awards.
Bwalya, who also won the Super Division golden boot, scored 24 goals.
Midfielder Austin Muwowo scooped the young player-of-the-year award to walk away with K2, 000.
Influential midfielder Jacob Ngulube got the most disciplined player-of-the-year award.
Ngulube, who received K3, 000, netted seven times.
Midfielder Simon Bwalya got the most consistent player-of-the-year accolade while Given Sinyangwe received the most improved player-of-the-year award.
Congolese defender Diego Apanane received the president’s special award.
Former international Joseph Musonda grabbed the most reliable player-of-the-year while skipper Donashano Malama received the longest-serving player award.
