Mwanza, Munkombwe unoppossed

CECILIA ZULU, Lusaka
ZAMBIA Golf Union president Charles Mwanza and Handball Association of Zambia executive member Edward Munkombwe were elected board members for the National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) yesterday.
And Deputy Minister of Youth, Sport and Child Development Ronald Chitotela has directed NSCZ to introduce provincial sports festivals to enhance sports standards in the country.
Mwanza and Munkombwe were unopposed during the annual general meeting held at Government complex in Lusaka.
The two were elected to fill vacancies created following the resignation of Allison Didier and the death of Ian Mbewe in 2013.
And NSCZ chairperson Mwamba Kalenga challenged the two to be dedicated in their duty.
“You need to be very committed. After all you made yourselves available to serve the Zambian people through sports,” Kalenga said.
He also warned associations to desist from holding annual general meetings (AGMs) without presenting audited books of accounts.
Meanwhile, Chitotela urged NSCZ to come up with a policy that will help in identifying talent across the country.
“To identify, develop and promote all forms of sport in the country, we need to come up with positive strategies that will enable sports associations to reach out to all corners of the country and identify talent,” Chitotela said.
